Solidworks slow doing simple sketches on a good computer?
I've been having an issue recently where Solidworks is EXTREMELY slow on my computer. I have 4GB of dedicated VRAM, 12GB of RAM, and an i7 processor so it should run just fine. The rest of my computer will be running fine while solidworks struggles to do simple features. I don't even have assemblies that I'm working on right now. Singular parts. I don't understand the issue I'm having. Has anyone else dealt with this?
Edit: Looks like it was an issue with my card not having OpenGL. I went into settings and used software OpenGL and now it runs smoothly as I'm used to. Thanks for the help everyone!!
The file, 'Always Disable Advanced OpenGL,' tells After Effects to ignore Advanced OpenGL during startup. It does what it says. For whatever reason, before I put that file in startup, AE would be stuck on 96% RAM usage until it crashed, during the rendering process.

Software OpenGL causes SW2017 to lockup
Hi all, I am a student who is trying to run Solidworks 2017 on a brand new Surface Pro 6 (i5/8gb ram/256gb config). When I attempt to select a Feature or open a Sketch, Solidworks highlights the outline of the object in Orange very slowly and freezes up for about 10-15 seconds causing windows to give a 'Solidworks is not responding' dialog. Solidworks will not crash and will recover from this then allow me to edit the object. Moving/rotating the object also stutters a lot. This also appears to effect the Dell XPS 13'.
At first, I attributed this to the Surface Pro 6 being a little weak for CAD, however, it runs perfectly fine on my (now deceased) 2013 13' (i5/8gb ram/256gb) MacBook pro under Bootcamp and Windows 10. I figured the SP6 was being throttled so I downloaded Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and observed the performance graphs while running Solidworks. Long story short, Current Limiting was being triggered pretty often and undervolting, increasing turbo boost, and increasing the current did NOT help. I restored the original settings after this.

Frustrated, I did the natural thing and googled to see if anyone else had the issue and it seems to be a common thing with Intel UHD Graphics 620, 630 and 640 chips. The fix that I found was to disable 'Use Software OpenGL' within options/performance at the bottom, which is grayed out for me even with all parts, assemblies, and drawings closed. The fix for that is a Registry hack (below). Adding a 'Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620' registry key to Solidworks/Performance/Graphics/Hardware/Intel with a Workarounds key set to 9 (the value of the key does not seem to matter) deselected the Software OpenGl option. This resulted in the Part rotating buttery smooth and the Orange highlighting happened instantaneously. Unfortunately, when I try to edit a feature or a sketch, Solidworks hard crashes. Undoing the registry hack takes me back to square one.
After the hard crash (and I undo the registry hack), Solidworks RX appears and gives me two 'safe mode' options. I forgot the names but the first option uses software OpenGl and the second one does not in order to isolate graphics issues from options/settings problems. The second option starts Solidworks in a 'barebones' config with no software OpenGl and this runs *perfect*. Part rotation is smooth, I can edit Features and Sketches, Assemblies are no issue. So naturally I tried to save those settings and restore them in normal Solidworks. Unfortunately this did not work but it was a worth an attempt. I also played with all and I mean all of the settings with and without the registry hack hoping to find the offending setting but nothing seemed to work. I also attempted to disable all add-ins.
I am starting to get desperate at this point but so far I know that Solidworks RX - No software Gl works great so I know the hardware is capable of running it. My next steps are to user older versions of the video driver but I figure I would stop here for now. Drivers link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126789/Intel-UHD-Graphics-620
A few results about the registry hack:

OK by doing more Googling ... the work around is to use regedit to add a Key in the registry:
Add the key 'Intel(R) Iris(TM) Plus Graphics 640' under
'HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSOLIDWORKSSOLIDWORKS 2017PerformanceGraphicsHardwareIntel'
Under this key add a DWORD with the name 'Workarounds' and give it a hex value of 10000009
And for reference, my SP6 has Win10 Home, the i5-8250U processor, Intel UHD Graphics 620 and I am using the 24.20.100.6195 video driver.
This is my first Reddit post and I am trying to put as much info as possible to help others with this issue. Thanks!
